Join Us on a Sunrise Hike in Madeira

Ponta de Sao Lourenço is one of the most popular attractions in Madeira, and the absolute best way to really appreciate this hike is by going early to avoid the crowds.

Known for its beautiful colours and rock formations, the volcanic peninsula is one of the oldest parts of the island. The peninsula is classified as a partial natural reserve. All the land and sea along the north coast is part of the European network of important community sites — Natura 2000.

You can witness very unique fauna and flora on this side of the island, including endemic birds and, on the very rare occasion, a visit from the world’s rarest seal, the monk seal. At the end of the trail, you can dive into the Sardinha port, a great place for a swim in some of the cleanest water!

The hike involves some ascents and descents and is considered to be moderately difficult, with a total of 8 km more or less, which should take around four hours in total to complete.
