Hike from North to South into Nun’s Valley in Madeira Island

Ideal for walkers!

Characterized by its green mantle covering its slopes, and by its great tranquility, it is in Boaventura that this great adventure begins.
In the past, this was the only route that the population of Boaventura used to travel on foot to Curral das Freiras or even to Funchal, it was a single route that connected the north coast to the south coast of Madeira. Some say that it was 8 hours always walking, others say that it arrived at 1 day.

Lombo do Urzal is the name of the trail where we always start climbing up to Boca das Torrinhas. The view from Boca das Torrinhas is magnificent, either because we see the summit of the highest peaks that surround Curral das Freiras, or because of the view under Curral das Freiras.

From here, the trail is always going down to Faja dos Cardos.

On this route, we find ourselves in the middle of the Laurissilva Forest that ends in the presence of exotic vegetation.

It has about 10.5 km, altitudes between 519 to 1450m and duration of 5 to 7 hours. It is considered a medium / difficult hike as we have a reasonable climb and a steep descent.

This hike is ideal for experienced hikers or for active people who are nature lovers!
